It was the original terminus of the line, hence the line bears its name. A new turnback at Revesby, which opened in 2009 as part of the CityRail Clearways Project replaced East Hills' role as an intermediate terminus. It had a brick building on an island platform in the style of other stations on the East Hills line[1]. The line was single track from Riverwood and unelectrified at opening. Electrification followed in 1939. The station was completely rebuilt and slightly relocated in 1987 when the line was extended from East Hills to the Main South Line at Glenfield. East Hills has two through tracks (platforms 2 and 3 as an island platform) and a side terminating track (platform 1). A disadvantage of the side layout of the terminating platform is that trains arriving in the turnback platform obstructed Sydney bound trains from Campbelltown, as terminating trains crossed over the 'up' (towards Sydney) track to reach the terminating platform. The current station is of modern concrete and steel construction, with a ramps down from platform level to the entrance and booking office below. The station was the main terminus of 'local' all stations between 1987 and 2009, when it was replaced by a new turn-back at Revesby. Platforms and services The standard service is four trains per hour during weekday peak hours in each direction and two trains per hour at other times. Trains are usually express services between Campbelltown and the city. The terminating platform at East Hills is used occasionally and during disruptions.
