An enzyme inducer is a type of drug which binds to an enzyme and increases its metabolic activity. Classic examples: barbiturates (phenobarbitone), antiepileptics and rifampin. For example, carbamazepine is an enzyme inducer. By enzyme induction it can reduce efficacy of haloperidol & oral contraceptives.
