Demographics As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,244 people, 537 households, and 322 families residing in the city. The population density was 932.8 people per square mile (361.1/km²). There were 640 housing units at an average density of 479.9/sq mi (185.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.95% White, 0.08% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.32% Asian, and 0.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.88% of the population. There were 537 households out of which 26.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.0% were married couples living together, 5.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.0% were non-families. 36.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.91.
